Hi! I am Alida Sawyer and I have worked in the Beaufort County School System for 32 years as an Exceptional Needs educator. I began my career at Chocowinity High School working with Learning Disabled students in grades 4-12. I then transferred to John Cotten Tayloe Elementary School in Washington and taught learning disabled, educable mentally disabled and emotionally/behaviorally disabled students for 24 years. I retired in 2011 but my love for children and varied experiences in the profession have brought me out of retirement! In the process, I have directed several grants through the Beaufort County School System as well as the Cornerstone Family Worship Center.
On a personal note, I grew up in Wilmington, NC but moved to Greenville when I enrolled at East Carolina University. I obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities from East Carolina. I have been married to my wonderful husband Terry, for 37 years and have three grown sons and three grandchildren. Some of my hobbies include swimming, walking and gardening,. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the Cornerstone Afterschool Program and I look forward to the wonderful things that can be achieved when we work together!
